Visiting the island of Ilha Grande off the mainland from Rio de Janeiro and the coastal town of Paraty, there’s plenty of beaches to visit and enjoy at these locations. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the towns of Vila do Abraão and Paraty and take a jeep into the Serra Bocaina National Park for a rainforest adventure.

ITINERARY
Departing from Rio de Janeiro you will be transferred to the port to board a ferry to Illha Grande. Located off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Illha Grande is an island retreat with tropical beaches, rainforests and scenic beauty. The island has a rich history, previously acting as a home to a leper colony and then a high security penitentiary. You are free to explore at your leisure after your arrival.
Your day is free to explore the island of Ilha Grande. There are more than one hundred beaches to kick back and relax at, or alternatively you can explore the main township of Vila do Abraão. Of all the beaches, Lopes Mendes Beach is the most popular thanks to its fine white sand. To reach the beach, you can either take a water taxi or choose to take a four to five hour hike. Once there, you can wander the 3km beach or enjoy the surf. If you choose to stay in Vila do Abraão, there are plenty of great restaurants and bars and the town’s own beach to relax at.
Today you will travel back to the mainland to the town or Paraty. Located on the Bay of Ilha Grande, Paraty is a beautiful coastal town that’s set against a steep mountain backdrop. The town developed thanks to the Brazilian Goldrush as people travelled through the port on their travels between Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais Goldfields. There are more than sixty five islands and three hundred beaches within close proximity to Paraty and the colonial town centre hosts 17th and 18th century buildings and churches. You are free to explore after your arrival.
Departing mid-morning, you will travel by jeep to the tranquil Serra Bocaina National Park. Once there, you will take a walk through the rainforest to the Pedra Branca, Togoga and Tarzan waterfalls. You will have time to enjoy a swim at each of these waterfalls. From the national park you’ll head to an 18th century cachaca distillery to taste firewater and see how it’s produced. You’ll then head to a restaurant for lunch and stop at a bakery to taste some local Brazilian cakes and desserts.
You will be transferred from Paraty back to Rio de Janeiro where you can continue your stay or depart for your next destination.
