Tayrona National Park Extension

Today you will be collected from your hotel or the airport in Cartagena and transferred to your next accommodation, located just outside Tayrona National Park. The journey takes between 4.5 to 5 hours by road. This is a private service with an English-speaking guide.

Tayrona National Park on the Caribbean Coast, situated where the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta sinks into the Caribbean, has some of the most beautiful coastline of South America. The park covers 12,000 hectares of land and 3,000 hectares of sea, and the scenery varies from white sand beaches on the north coast to arid cactus strewn hills in the extreme west, changing to rainforest in the central, eastern and southern limits of the park. The rivers and rainforest teem with wildlife and the park’s beautiful beaches are set in deep bays and shaded by coconut palms. The area was once inhabited by the Tayrona people, and their ancient capital, Ciudad Perdida (Lost City), built between the 11th and 14th centuries, is a mysterious city set deep in the jungle.

Set out for Tayrona National Park to begin today's excursion. Tayrona National Natural Park, is an extensive protected area that covers the slopes of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta bordering the Caribbean coast. It is known for its beaches lined with palm trees, coastal lagoons, tropical forests, and rich biodiversity. A full day is planned for you to enjoy its beauty. Arriving first to Canaveral, a beach with plenty of coconut palms, white sand, and close proximity to the mountain range so you can take in the breathtaking scenery. Canaveral is regarded as one of the park's most beautiful beaches, with magnificent cliffs illuminated by sunlight and contrasted with the colours of the sea. After an hour-long ecological stroll that passes by the Arrecifes beach, you will reach Piscinita. Before returning to Canaveral, take your time to unwind, enjoy this beach that resembles a natural pool, and take in the breathtaking views. Lunch is included. Later we return back to the hotel. 

Today is a free day where you can choose to relax at your hotel and enjoy a cocktail by the pool, take a hike along the riverside of the Mendihuaca or go swimming, snorkelling or surfing on Los Naranjos beach. Alternatively, you can take an excursion back to Tayrona National Park and hike to Cabo San Juan or visit Pueblito Chayrama, where archaeological ruins lie. These are remnants of the Tayrona people, who once inhabited this area and built their ancient capital, Cuidad Perdida (Lost City) in the jungle nearby.
