Immerse yourself in the island's arid vegetation zone, marking the beginning of unforgettable adventures in the Galapagos.
Begin your day with a morning visit to Chinese Hat Islet, situated near the southeast coast of Santiago Island. Named for its distinctive summit, this small islet offers a fascinating display of geological wonders, including lava tunnels and flows. Some of the lava formations were originally shaped underwater, later emerging above the sea level. The presence of coral heads on the lava flow attests to this unique phenomenon.
In the afternoon, venture to Sullivan Bay, nestled on the southeast part of Santiago. Renowned for its captivating geology, the area is blanketed with expansive lava flows. Explore elevations resembling small volcanoes, sculpted by the once molten lava. Sullivan Bay promises an immersive encounter with the dynamic landscapes of the Galapagos, showcasing the raw beauty of nature's geological artistry.
Embark on the third day of your Galapagos odyssey with a morning visit to Darwin Bay. Explore the pristine white-sand coral beach, where a half-mile trail winds through mangroves teeming with land birds. Encounter Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, and swallow-tailed gulls easily spotted in this rich habitat. As you follow the path, discover tidal pools where playful sea lions swim. The journey culminates with a spectacular cliff-side view, providing a breathtaking vista of the surroundings.
In the afternoon, venture to El Barranco, also known as Prince Phillip’s Steps. Ascend the steep, rocky path that leads up a high cliff rock face, offering a marvelous panoramic view. Home to Palo Santo vegetation, the site is alive with the presence of red-footed boobies, short-eared owls, Galapagos storm petrels, and Galapagos doves. El Barranco promises not only stunning vistas but also an intimate encounter with the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this extraordinary Galapagos landscape.
Start the day with a morning exploration of Egas Port, also known as James Bay, on Santiago Island. Home to the inquisitive Galapagos hawks and nimble Galapagos lava lizards, the trail leads you to the coastline adorned with exquisite tide pools and grottos teeming with fauna. Bask in the sight of Galapagos fur seals soaking up the sun, and take advantage of the fantastic snorkeling opportunities at this captivating location.
In the afternoon, set sail for Rabida Island (or Jervis), a jewel in the archipelago boasting vivid colors and volcanic diversity. Begin your visit on Rabida’s renowned maroon/red sand beach, followed by an easy hike that leads to a breathtaking lookout, offering panoramic views of the stunning landscapes. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the abundance of species, including various finches, Galapagos vermilion flycatchers, Galapagos hawks, and brown pelicans. Rabida promises not only vibrant scenery but also an immersive encounter with the diverse wildlife that thrives on this captivating island.
The final day of your Galapagos journey, begins with a morning visit to the Fausto Llerena Tortoise Breeding Center in Puerto Ayora. Witness the captivating process of breeding giant tortoises in captivity, ranging from adorable 3-inch hatchlings to majestic 4-feet-long adults. This center serves as a home for various subspecies of giant tortoises, fostering interaction among them. Many of the older tortoises are familiar with humans, often extending their heads for a delightful photo opportunity. The newborns are nurtured until they reach about four years of age, becoming strong enough to thrive independently.
Following this enriching visit, your adventure concludes with a smooth transfer to Baltra Airport. Arrive in time for your flight back to the mainland, carrying cherished memories of the unique wildlife, stunning landscapes, and rich biodiversity.
Experience some of the best snorkelling in all of South America, if not the world, in some of the most pristine and turquoise waters.
