Experience the city’s relaxed culture as you wander its hillsides, discover its markets and travel on one of its remaining funiculars. An escape from the bustling city of Santiago, this four-day Chimu Adventures’ Valparaiso extension allows you to do just that, escape and unwind. You will tour some of Valparaiso's renowned sites including, Echaurren Square, as well as Concepción and Alegre Hills. Plus enjoy the opportunity to partake in a cooking experience, where you will learn how to prepare some of Chile's best local dishes.
On this all-encompassing personalised itinerary, Chimu will provide travel logistics for your travel party for the duration of your journey, plus expert guides for all the major sightseeing as per the itinerary. Each night you will stay in superior accommodation, handpicked by our experienced team for their creature comforts, convenient locations, and impeccable service.
On arrival at the airport in Santiago, Chile’s capital, you will be collected and transferred through to Valparaiso for some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Valparaiso has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and many of its colourful buildings perch in a haphazard fashion on its hillside.
If you arrive early enough, you may wish to take a walk to discover the local art galleries and street art which embody Valparaiso’s bohemian lifestyle, including visiting one stairwell which claims, “we are not hippies, we are happies.” Or take a ride on one of the city’s remaining funiculars.
Today you will enjoy a private tour of Valparaiso. Marvel at the graffiti and street art that lights up the cities buildings as we make our way around the city. The guide will customise the tour to suit your ability and interests, walking by foot for the most part so you can truly experience this unique city up close. We will visit places of interest such as the surroundings of Echaurren Square, the downtown Port, the old banking area as well as Concepcion and Alegre Hills, where we will find plenty of artesian stalls and artist workshops for you to explore. One of the highlights is travelling on one of the famous funicular's which are still in operation to this day. This allows a different perspective of the city , where you can witness the spectacular views from the buildings and houses that climb up the hanging hills of the city. Return back to your hotel at the end of the tour, where the remainder of the day is at your own leisure.
Today you will enjoy a cooking class with a small group. Your first stop will be at the nearby local markets to assist in purchasing the produce that will be required for the cooking experience. You will learn to cook some of Chile's best local dishes such as, Pebre, Ceviche, Porotos Granados or Pastel de Choclo with a dessert and local seasonal fruits. You will even get a lesson in mastering the art of making the perfect Pisco Sour, to enjoy with all the delicious food you have prepared. Enjoy the dishes you have prepared together with your group for lunch, before returning back to your hotel in the early afternoon.
The rest of the day is at your own leisure.
You will be transferred from your hotel to the airport for your onward flight.
