Voyage out on a 4-day cruise through the Galápagos Islands. The journey unfolds with a visit to the Santa Cruz Highlands, where giant tortoises roam freely, and the Charles Darwin Research Station sheds light on conservation efforts. Cruise out to the Santa Cruz, with unique landscapes and explore volcanic tubes. Visit Genovesa, Darwins Bay and Prince Steps. Snorkel with an amazing array of marine life, including turtles, sea lions and even hammerhead sharks . Continue to Bartolme Island and Bowditch Point, where endemic species, unique marine life and dramatic landscapes create an immersive experience. Conclude your expedition with a visit to Bachas Beach, with its soft white sand, a prime nesting site for sea turtles, before bidding farewell to the Galápagos Islands.
Check out the 5 Day Central & Eastern Galapagos Islands cruise onboard Monserrat.
In the morning, upon your arrival at Baltra Airport from your mainland flight, you will be greeted by your local guide who will assist you for the rest of your voyage.
Later this afternoon, you will get to explore the highlands of Santa Cruz and see the magnificent Galápagos giant tortoise in its natural habitat. Get to discover the remarkable landscapes and visit underground lava tunnels – some extending over 1km (.6 mi) in length! While wandering along these volcanic tubes, keep a lookout for the (mostly) nocturnal barn owls that occasionally inhabit this area.
Today sail to the beautiful and remote Genovesa Island. This island is a paradise for bird lovers with an estimated 200,000 red-footed boobies living on this island.
This morning you will visit Darwin Bay, a birdwatching paradise. The island hosts various bird species, including swallow-tailed and lava gulls, mockingbirds, yellow-crowned night herons, lava herons, Galapagos doves, and yellow warblers. A short trail will take you to red-footed booby and great frigatebird nests. You can also explore a tidal lagoon with playful sea lions and enjoy breathtaking views from a cliff. You may even have time to snorkel with sea lions and for sea turtles.
In the afternoon hike the steep 81-foot stairway leading to a cliff offering stunning views over the bay. Hiking the Palo Santo trail, visitors can spot Nazca and red-footed boobies, mockingbirds, finches, wedge-rumped storm petrels, and short-eared owls. Later you will have the opportunity to do some deep-water snorkelling, offering a chance to see unique marine wildlife, including hammerhead sharks.
Todays excursion includes a hike to the summit on Bartolme Island, offering stunning panoramic views of the island and nearby volcanic formations, including Pinnacle Rock. You will also get a great perspective of the Galápagos Islands' volcanic origins. In the morning, you have the opportunity to snorkel around Pinnacle Rock, and excellent spot to see Galápagos penguins, sea lions, sea turtles, and various fish.
In the afternoon, you'll visit Bowditch Point, one of the more remote, less-visited sites in the Galapagos. This is another excellent snorkeling area with giant schools of black-striped salema, parrotfish, and Mexican hogfish, or you could try kayak or stand-up paddleboarding instead. Afterwards, enjoy some time relaxing on the beach or exploring the area.
The final day starts at Bachas Beach a stunning beach with soft, white sand made of decomposed coral, which is a prime nesting site for sea turtles. While on shore, you will get to spot Sally Lightfoot crabs and a variety of wildlife, including flamingos, hermit crabs, black-necked stilts, and sea lions.
The day will end with you disembarking at Baltra for your return flight to mainland Ecuador.
You will see a range of endemic flora and fauna and enjoy pristine nature in these remote and protected islands on this 4 day small ship expedition cruise.
From hiking to snorkelling, from relaxing to kayaking, you will have the opportunity to be as active as you would like to be on this ship. There is one guide for every 8-10 guests compared to some vessels that will have one guide for every 16 guests. On board you will enjoy BBQ’s and cooking classes.
If you would like to spend more time in Ecuador, before or after your cruise, we have tours that will suit you with city packages in the colonial capital city of Quito, side trips to the lush forests of the Amazon and Cloud Forest to the volcanic highlands. If you would like to venture further afield, we have packages throughout Latin America, so maybe a visit to Peru or Colombia would be the perfect add on to your trip.
