OVERVIEW

Discover breathtaking scenery from the Amazon and become one with nature with this luxurious 4-day Amazon cruise.

Experience the enchanting sights of the Amazon during the low season. Cruise through the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, one of the largest protected flooded forests in the world. Explore the rich ecosystem of the rainforest during the Low-Water season, as the waters subside, the rainforest opens up previously submerged treks offering new avenues to experience the forest’s biodiversity.  Experience High-Water from November to May. Ideal for travelers that prefer to duck into otherwise isolated corners of the reserve onboard speed boats. Allows for more extensive exploration and access via water. Both offer very different experiences through this unforgettable world of trees and water.

The Delfin Experience
Delfin offers all-inclusive luxury Peruvian Amazon Cruises. Experience an ideal combination of natural wonders, dramatic scenery, and indigenous cultural history while you enjoy the highest levels of comfort. Navigate into the most hidden corners of the Amazon, with daily excursions to experience the surroundings with expert naturalist guides. Activities include hiking and trail walks, wildlife excursions and birdwatching, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, canopy walks, night safaris, and swimming. When not out on excursions, enjoy the onboard facilities including a sundeck with rainforest spa and gym (Delfin II and III). Onboard you will be treated to exquisite meals where Peruvian cuisine is infused with touches and inspirations from the rainforest around you.

On this all-encompassing luxury cruise, Chimu will provide travel logistics for your travel party for the duration of your journey, plus expert guides for all the major sightseeing as per itinerary.

This cruise runs year round, but the itinerary does change depending on the water levels throughout the season.

ITINERARY

Embarkation in Iquitos and Maranon River

Our crew will be expecting your arrival at the airport, then transfer all together in our comfortable private vehicle. We will start you off with a lunchbox as we begin the journey to Nauta. Once here you will enjoy a VIP greeting at our private port along the shores of the Maranon River where the vessel awaits you.
While the Delfin begins its initial navigation, you will enjoy the most fantastic panoramic views from the elegantly outfitted observation area located on our third deck. Your naturalist guide will give you an overview of your journey’s schedule, activities, route, highlights, wildlife, and vegetation to keep your eye out for, geographical and historical background, and other useful details.

Early in the evening we will head down into the Marañon River to a location known as Pahuachiro. This lovely spot is an ideal place to spend some time in search of birds and playful monkeys. As your naturalist guide spots various creatures for you, the landscape adorned by the usual colours of the sun´s reflections is a great photo opportunity as you witness your first Amazon Rainforest Sunset.

Amazon Natural Park and Yanaycu Pucate

On your first morning with us, we recommend getting up early to appreciate one of the most important zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Never does nature seem more bountiful than in the tropics, and early rising is always rewarding since wildlife is most abundant and active with the rising of the sun. The early morning hours are the best time of day to watch birds, observe their special displays and listen to their songs.

We will jump on the skiffs and head to this area with large trees and old palm trees as well, these components favour the presence of several parrot species. This particular spot has a great number of other birds of different species. We will look for the famous hoatzins nesting a few feet above water, and perhaps a sloth or two of the three toed kind.

Amazon Natural Park - This unique opportunity, you will get to the only Canopy Walkway in this area, an experience unequalled in the rainforest! At a height of over 25 meters (85 feet) and extending for 500 meters the Canopy Walkway provides a view of the rainforest from the treetops, the best vantage point for observing Amazon wildlife and vegetation. The suspended walkway is spread between 14 of the area’s largest rainforest trees and is one of the longest canopy walkways in the world. You will enjoy “Terra Firma” forest.

In the afternoon we will cruise through the Yanayacu and Pucate Rivers, peeking into different creeks and lagoons. This is one of the best preserved and protected zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Your guide will use his expert eye to pinpoint all the biodiversity of this region. If you want to interact directly with the waters of the Amazon, you can go out on one of our kayaks.
You will even have the opportunity to spot the famous pink dolphins!

At nightfall, your naturalist guides will invite you to board one of our skiss. At night, the biodiversity of the jungle totally changes. You will search for alligators, bats and more nocturnal creatures that are so interesting and unique as daytime.

Nauta Cano, Fundo Casual and Confluence

This morning enjoy a skiff expedition - Nauta Caño Creek is known for squirrel and silver back tamarillo monkeys, birds, dolphins, and even sloths! We will skim the riverbanks for small caimans and spiders, as well as insects of all colours, shapes and sizes.

In the afternoon we take a walk through the Fundo Casual jungle trail which will take you deep into the rainforest on terra firme (non-flooded forest) where your guide will point out the dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. Be sure to keep an attentive eye open for spotting surprises! It’s almost unbelievable how with every step you find something along the way. Almost definitely Anaconda, Rainbow Boas, Tarantulas, Poison Frogs, and most recently porcupines have been spotted.
This is one of the very few places in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve Amazon Rainforest where you will spot the ever so elusive 2-toed sloth.

This evening you will enjoy a farewell dinner where we will toast and witness the distinguished colours of the 3 rivers, better known as the “Unión de los Ríos”. It is known that the Ucayali River, which in turn confluences with the Marañón River upstream of Iquitos, Peru, to form what countries other than Brazil consider to be the main stem of the Amazon River. There will be great photo opportunity as you enjoy a Amazon Rainforest Sunset.

Disembarkation and Manatee Centre

In the morning you will disembark your vessel and bid farewell to your crew. You will then be taken by private vehicle to the port of Nauta, where the ground crew will be waiting to take you to Iquitos.

On our way from Nauta back to Iquitos airport, you will visit the Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals (ACOBIA) where you will have the chance to meet baby manatees and learn about these wonderful and docile creatures and why they are on the endangered species list. Our land personnel will wait for you at the airport and give your boarding passes and help you check in.
