Arrival Transfer in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Argentina’s elegant, historic and cosmopolitan capital, is known as the “Paris of the South” due to its European atmosphere with glamorous avenues lined with fashionable shops and Parisian-style restaurants and cafes. Located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, Buenos Aires has many fascinating neighbourhoods to explore including the colourful and lively La Boca, home to art galleries and tango shows; San Telmo with its restored mansions and antique stores and Recoleta, the city’s most exclusive area.

Buenos Aires

You will be collected from your hotel for your three-hour tour visiting the most important highlights of the city of Buenos Aires. Discover the history of the Plaza de Mayo Square, the site of Argentina’s most important historical events - see its surroundings and the most emblematic buildings and learn all about them. Then enjoy Mayo Avenue and wonder in awe at the oldest residential neighbourhood in Buenos Aires: San Telmo. Live and feel the original Tango in the neighbourhood of La Boca: walk along Caminito Street and enjoy the Dancers and souvenir shops. See the mythical Boca Juniors soccer stadium. Contemplate the modernization of the city whilst traveling along Puerto Madero and its exclusive docks, full of excellent restaurants and large offices. Pass through the Retiro neighbourhood and move on to see Palermo and its most exclusive residential area before finally arriving at Recoleta. Here, discover the final resting place of Eva Peron, “Evita” and wander through Recoleta Cemetery where she is to be found. On completion of your tour, you will be taken to your hotel. Please note this is a small group tour.

Highlights of Buenos Aires City Tour

Travel from the heart of Buenos Aires to the Tigre Delta in a catamaran, offering one of the best views of the city skyline (a view that surprisingly few people see, even locals). You will be collected from your hotel and taken to the city’s port to board a modern catamaran which will take you to the Tigre Delta. During the one-and-a-half-hour cruise you will be able to admire Buenos Aires from the Rio de la Plata (River Plate), its northern areas and the channels of the Delta, whilst enjoying refreshments on board. After the cruise, disembark at Tigre Pier and visit by vehicle Paseo Victoria, the most important neighbourhood in Tigre and then the Puerto de Frutos. You will soon find yourself in San Isidro where you will visit the town’s historical centre and Cathedral on foot while having a snack, and then finally you will see the city’s northern areas and the Presidential Residence in Olivos, before returning to the city.

San Isidro & Tigre Delta Tour

This evening you will be collected from your hotel to experience a Tango Show with dinner at Aljibe Tango. Located in San Telmo, the venue is a restored conventillo (boarding house) and offers an intimate show featuring professional dancers and musicians. The show is accompanied by a traditional menu and Argentine wines. Due to the show commencing earlier than other venues, this is an ideal venue for families or those who want a taste of tango but not a late evening.

Dinner will be served from 7.00pm followed by the show commencing from 8.00pm. Please note timings are subject to change and will be confirmed directly to you. On completion of the show, you will be taken to your hotel. Please note this is a small group tour.

Arrive in Ushuaia, Argentina - the world’s southernmost town. In the afternoon, you will board your vessel.

Our journey begins as we navigate through the calms of Beagle Channel, a strait in the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago.

Fly Buenos Aires to Ushuaia & Embark

Sailing onward, we cross the famed Drake Passage - a body of water that marks the intersection of the cold Antarctic with the warmer Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Drake Passage is known for rollicking conditions and strong westerly winds, called the Roaring Fifties. While this passage may be challenging, you can rest confidently aboard our expedition vessel, Ocean Atlantic, which is purpose-built with stabilizers, powerful engines and a highly-qualified crew. The most spirited sailors consider Drake Passage a lifetime achievement, and you will complete the crossing twice!

In the Drake, the excitement builds as Antarctic wildlife comes into view. Weather permitting, we will catch our first sight of seals and penguins! The area is also well-know for its abundance of birds.

At Sea - Drake Passage: Days 5-6

Over the next two days, we will explore to the sub-Antarctic islands of the South Shetland chain.

Projected landfalls include: King George Island; Deception Island, an extinct volcano with waters warm enough for a polar swim; and Half Moon Island with nesting Wilson's storm petrels and chinstrap penguins.

The itinerary and activities over the next few days depend on weather and ice conditions. The route and shore landings will be determined by the captain and expedition leader and communicated to guests through regularly scheduled briefings.

South Shetland Islands: Days 7-8

As the white shimmer of Antarctica looms on our horizon, the presence of wildlife multiples by tens of thousands with many species of lively penguins, inquisitive seals, nesting birds and the spray of marine mammals.

Wildlife abounds along our projected route along the Antarctic Peninsula: leopard, fur and Weddell seals of Cuverville Island; humpback whales of Gerlache Strait; Paradise Bay; the dramatic Lemaire Channel's orcas.

The itinerary and activities over the next few days depend on weather and ice conditions. The route and shore landings will be determined by the captain and expedition leader and communicated to guests through regularly scheduled briefings.

Antarctic Peninsula: Days 9-10

Now we will depart Antarctica and spend two days at sea on our way back to the calms of Beagle Channel and Ushuaia, Argentina. En-route, we will cross Drake Passage and cruise past Cape Horn, a legendary maritime landmark and the southern tip of South America.

During our time at sea, a variety of activities will be arranged on board and it provides the perfect opportunity to socialise with fellow travellers.

Depart Antarctica - At Sea: Days 11-12

This morning, we arrive back in Ushuaia where the expedition ends.
