OVERVIEW

Departing from the end of the world, Ushuaia you will embark on a legendary journey to cross the Antarctic Circle. Enjoy your Antarctica expedition cruise onboard the well-appointed MS Seaventure which takes just 138 passengers, which means a more intimate experience and allows maximum time off the ship experiencing the wonders of the white continent.

As you cruise further south you will encounter heavy pack ice and incredibly pristine scenery. Very few adventures make it this far south, and this is your chance to be one of the lucky ones who do! Your expedition cruise allows ample wildlife viewing opportunities and you will likely see whales, penguins, seals and a variety of sea birds. Each voyage is unique, and you will enjoy twice daily shore excursions and landings.

Spend 1 night in Ushuaia included at the 5* Arakur Hotel prior to the incredible Antarctica cruise. Situated in the exclusive Cerro Alarkén Nature Reserve this is much more than just a five-star hotel. It is the perfect way to start your trip before embarking on your cruise vessel.

ITINERARY

Arrival & Explore Ushuaia

After a friendly welcome at the airport and a transfer to the luxurious Arakur Resort & Spa, take some time to unwind or explore the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia.

Our evening briefing at the Arakur is your opportunity to ask questions and meet some of your fellow explorers.

Embarkation

Spend your morning relaxing at the hotel, visiting a museum, or exploring the shops in Ushuaia, before our mid-afternoon escort to the ship. Our Expedition Team and ship staff will welcome you on board and get you settled in, followed by a safety and orientation briefing and our Captain’s welcome dinner. We’re on our way to Antarctica!

Crossing The Drake Passage - Day 3 & 4

Join our Polar Experts as they share their vast knowledge of Antarctica, from its enchanting wildlife to its bold history. Participate in our pioneering Citizen Science program, or sit back and take in this fabled journey while catching glimpses of rarely-seen wildlife. Keep your binoculars handy to identify the many seabirds that escort our ship as we cross the Antarctic Convergence into Antarctica’s waters and noticeably cooler temperatures.

South Shetland Islands

Over time, the volcanic activity of the South Shetland Islands has created a geology unlike any other. Here, you can expect a spectacular display of mountains, glaciers, and wildlife including Chinstrap and Gentoo penguins; and it’s not uncommon to share the water’s edge with Elephant and Fur seals. Whales are often spotted as well. So, we’ll settle into our Zodiacs and kayaks, and spend most of our day exploring. Whether on land or sea, in zodiac or kayak, be prepared for a fully immersive introduction to this incomparable part of the world.

Antarctic Circle - Day 6 to 8

Heading south across the Bransfield Strait, we begin to see the breathtaking outline of the Antarctic Peninsula. Wildlife sightings, including penguins, whales, and fur seals, become more frequent, as do dramatic ice sculptures. Should Antarctica’s unpredictable weather and ice permit, you will be among the lucky few to cross the Antarctic Circle, where the sun remains in the sky for 20 hours a day. Following a tradition first established by sailors crossing the equator, we’ll celebrate the occasion by… (Sorry, you just have to be there), before heading onward toward any number of historic and rarely visited British Survey bases, after which we turn back north.

Antarctic Peninsula - Day 9 to 11

Heading north into warmer climes, we’ll see less sea ice and more open channels, offering access to islands where we can anticipate any number of wildlife sightings, which could include a variety of seal species, as well as penguin rookeries where the locals will be taking advantage of the rocky shore to build their nesting sites. You can anticipate more whale sightings, as well, as Humpbacks feast on the plentiful krill in these warmer waters. As always, we will seek out opportunities to stop at several active scientific bases and historic landing sites along the way, as we leave no opportunity unseized-upon in our quest to explore the very best of this magical place.

Drake Passage - Day 12 & 13

We leave this magical place and make our way north, once again crossing the legendary Drake Passage. We have one last hurrah as we celebrate the conclusion of our expedition with a special slideshow and a final meal together.

Disembarkation in Ushuaia

With huge smiles on weary, content faces, we disembark in the morning, letting you catch a flight to Buenos Aires or stay in Ushuaia for more sights and adventure.

Speed and comfort

Optimised entirely for Antarctic voyages, the heavy steel of the MS Seaventure cuts through the Drake Passage with ease. State-of-the-art marine retractable stabilisers reduce movement significantly inside the ship, rendering the voyage across the Drake not only more efficient but smoother than most other expedition ships.

Education and science focused

Citizen science is world-class on the MS Seaventure with six separate projects throughout the journey. Each guest on board can be involved and gain a deep understanding of the location whilst sending data back to significant scientific organisations to help with their critical research on Antarctica. Each journey also offers onboard scientific and educational lectures.

Friendly and inclusive travel environment

This is not an 'us and them' cruise; your expedition crew will dine with guests during meal times, sharing their personal insights into Antarctica and getting to know the people they are travelling with. Breaking down walls and building a more family feel as you travel to the most enigmatic place on earth - together.

7:1 traveller to expedition staff ratio

Thanks to a 7:1 traveller to expedition staff ratio, coordinating excursions is the number one priority and unless weather conditions prevent it, guests will spend up to six hours a day off the ship and immersed in Antarctica.

Spacious outdoor viewing

A full wraparound deck, close to the water, is a must have in Antarctica and a photographer's dream. The MS Seaventure's deck is on the lower decks, offering brilliant viewing of wildlife and Antarctica as it happens in 360 degrees. That way, you won't be stuck in only one space and when the captain announces ‘orcas’, you can be outside in a flash!

Luxury amenities and inviting cabins

The rooms are designed to cater for all tastes and include many balcony rooms on the higher levels, away from ocean spray that can be encountered on the Drake Passage, offering higher comfort and security for deluxe travellers. You’ll also enjoy exceptional cuisine and lots of common areas for lectures and socialising.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITES

Enhance your immersive experience with an optional activity in Antarctica whilst travelling on the MS Seaventure.

Kayaking & Camping are at an extra cost but, due to their popularity, are limited in space and can book out quickly.
