Mexico City lies in the heart of Central Mexico and is the capital of Mexico, as well as the oldest capital city in the Americas. It is one of the largest cities in the world, with over 20 million inhabitants in the greater metropolitan area, and it has a rich history and colorful culture.
We will explore magnificent Mexico City, built on top of the ruins of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan. Our first stop is the Zocalo (main square), one of the biggest public squares in the world. We will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, the biggest church in Latin America, and the Templo Mayor. We then drive along the famous boulevard Paseo de la Reforma, built during the short-lived reign of Emperor Maximilian to connect the main square and his castle in Chapultepec. Our last stop is the Museum of Anthropology, where we will have some time to explore the treasures of the Aztec culture. Visiting the Aztec Hall, which contains one of the biggest highlights of this museum: the Aztec Calendar. This 12-foot carved basalt slab was discovered buried beneath the Zocalo.
Note: This private tour tour only operates Tuesday to Sunday. Templo Mayor and the Museum of Anthropology are closed on Monday’s. Approximate duration: 4-5 hours. Rest of your day is at leisure.

Merida was founded in 1542, built on the site of the ancient Maya city T’ho, meaning “city of five hills” in reference to its pyramids. After the arrival of the Spanish, the ancient city’s five main pyramids were destroyed, and the carved stones were widely used in the construction of Merida’s cathedral and other colonial buildings. Merida was constructed as a walled city, and several of the old Spanish city gates still remain. The city boasts the second-largest historic center in Mexico, with Mexico City’s being larger. It gets its nickname, La Ciudad Blanca (The White City), from the predominance of white limestone used as a building material. Merida is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of Yucatán, as well as the largest city on the Yucatán Peninsula.

You will be picked up from your hotel at 8:30am, travelling to the local central market, Lucas de Galvez, where we will first have an introduction to the local products and their use in traditional dishes. You will get to taste some empanadas, polcanes, panuchos or salbutes and cochinita pibil tacos. Afterwards we will continue walking, heading to a local restaurant where we will taste a variety of seafood tacos. Lastly we will venture to a local street ice creamery, where we get the opportunity to taste the traditional ice creams that are made with locally sourced fruits.
Please note: This 4-hour private tour includes transfers and an English-speaking guide. Pick up/drop off is available only for downtown Merida hotels. Guests outside this area must arrange their own transport to the 9 am meeting point at Parque Hidalgo. Hotel reception can assist with taxi booking if needed.
