"In my early 20s after finishing university, I decided to take a year off and go travelling before I knuckled down and got a ‘real job’. This originally planned one year morphed into something so much more!"
Beginning in Europe I spent a few years doing the obligatory ‘Aussie in the UK’ thing, seeing a big chunk of Europe and skiing some of Europe’s best resorts. I then headed over to the Americas and spent a year in Canada where I was lucky enough to also visit Alaska and got up to the incredible Arctic circle to view the stunning Aurora Borealis (northern lights). I will never forget sitting outside on a very brisk night (minus 20 if I recall!) in Fairbanks Alaska with a warm mulled wine in hand and gazing up at the sky mesmerized by the colours and patterns of the lights – an incredible experience.
From Canada, heading south, I saved the best continent for last! I arrived first in Colombia to spend a few weeks that turned into a life-changing four months. I was captivated by the sheer diversity of Colombia – A country with two oceans, a range of climates, vibrant cities and incredible food and culture. I settled in Medellin (the city of eternal spring) and set about learning a little bit of Spanish and immersing myself in the city and its vibrant culture. Other highlights of my time in Colombia were Tayrona National Park, the beautiful city of Cartagena and of course the bustling capital of Bogota where I watched plenty of football and most definitely drank too much aguardiente!
Since my 20’s I have been lucky enough to explore further south into Argentina and Chile including the Mendoza wine region – a huge favourite, as well as skiing the resorts around Bariloche as well. South America is a continent with just so much to offer and has so many surprises at every turn.
Away from work on my adventures, you will either find me at a South American ski resort or on an expedition ship somewhere.
Working in the cruise industry for the past 14 years, I have a passion for expedition cruising, which is all about getting ashore and immersing yourself in the destination and wildlife and getting off the beaten track and exploring new regions. I cannot wait to share my knowledge of small ship, adventure cruising with our partners.
