Like any successful team, we have a wide range of skills and experience between us, the uniting element which we see as our key to success is our passion and knowledge of all things Latin America, Antarctica and the Arctic.
These destinations are special to us. We can recall the emotions of setting foot on Antarctica for the first time, the feeling of icy air on bare skin as you stand on deck in the Arctic, the energy that gets into your core when you touch down in Latin America. We want to share this with our travellers so that they too can share our passion for these regions.
I’m so grateful that I get to make a living doing something I absolutely love. In my pre-Chimu life as an engineer, the work was just a job for me and wasn’t really something I got excited about. Now, I get excited just talking about travelling to South America and the Polar regions of Antarctica and the Arctic. As Co-Founder and current Managing Director of Chimu Adventures, I love that we get to help travellers plan Polar and Latin American holidays like no other. With over 20 years of experience, our specialist team at Chimu has created so many life-changing holidays to Antarctica, the Arctic, and iconic Latin America destinations like the Amazon and Machu Picchu.
I’ve always been more interested in adventurous destinations. South America and in particular the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia are like nowhere else on earth. However, you can’t beat the true expedition feeling of a trip to Antarctica. When you’re there and you barely see another soul and you know that you’re thousands of kilometres from any form of civilization – it was the first time I felt that I was on a proper adventure!
While I’m passionate about travel to the remote regions of our planet, I’m also equally passionate in ensuring we approach tourism in the most sustainable ways possible. I’m currently Chair of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) Climate Change Committee, collaborating with other Antarctic tour operators to make positive changes to our industry. Here at Chimu Adventures, we are working towards B-Corporation status and are constantly seeking new options to reduce our emissions. We also carbon offset all customer experiences, seek out sustainable partners, and support the local communities where we operate.
Over the years, I have also taken on a number of other roles including Managing Director for Intrepid Polar and Vice-Chair of the Australian Travel Association to Latin America (ATALA).
