OVERVIEW

SAVE UP TO 50% OFF THIS DEPARTURE**

Spend 2 nights in Ushuaia at the 5* Arakur Resort & Spa, giving you ample time to enjoy the beautiful nature and Tierra del Fuego National Park at your leisure. The hotel is located in the Cerro Alarkén Natural Reserve.

You will then embark on your small expedition ship, the MS Seaventure. Start your voyage by cruising through the Beagle Channel and crossing the infamous Drake Passage. During the crossing and sea days, you will learn more about Antarctica from the expert expedition crew and participate in Citizen Science activities. Keep an eye out for the many sea birds that escort the ship. Arriving at the South Shetland Islands, you will have your first glimpse of the icy wilderness of Antarctica. As you are travelling at the very start of the Antarctic season you will navigate through brash ice in zodiacs.

Continue on to the Antarctic Peninsula and enjoy the ethereal landscapes and peaceful seclusion. You can imagine what the early explorers felt like as you will be some of the first people to leave footprints in the freshly fallen snow for the season. Witness penguins coming ashore and building nests and cruise via zodiac past yawning Weddell seals, lazing on the ice. Your time in Antarctica includes two daily excursions (subject to weather and regulations) with a mix of landings and zodiac cruising. Cruise back across the Drake and disembark your ship in Ushuaia, saying farewell to newfound friends.

**SAVE UP TO 50% OFF promotion is only valid on this 22 October 2024 departure. Offer applies on all remaining cabin categories. ITINERARY

Arrive in Ushuaia

No need to stress about missed connections or flight delays as you arrive with an extra day to unwind and enjoy Ushuaia’s finest luxury hotel, the Arakur Resort & Spa. Relax in the infinity pool, explore the hiking trails surrounding the resort, or head out and discover the southernmost city in the world.

Explore Ushuaia

Explore the sights of Ushuaia, visit the museums and Argentinean leather markets, or continue relaxing at the hotel. The optional evening briefing is a great opportunity to ask questions and meet some of your fellow explorers.

Embarkation

Spend your morning hiking, exploring Ushuaia or unwinding at the resort until our mid-afternoon transfer to the ship. Anticipation builds as our Expedition Team and ship staff greet you on board, followed by a safety and orientation briefing and our lively Captain’s Welcome Dinner. You’re on your way to Antarctica!

Drake Passage - Day 4 & 5

Join our Polar Experts to begin immersing yourself in everything Antarctica-related, from its plentiful wildlife to its mesmerizing history. Get involved in our pioneering Citizen Science program. Or sit back with a pair of binoculars and keep a sharp eye out for the majestic seabirds that follow our journey across the Antarctic Convergence and into Antarctic waters.

South Shetland Islands - Day 6 & 7

As you catch your first unforgettable glimpse of an iceberg, the reality of your upcoming adventure begins to sink in. We have reached the volcanic South Shetland Islands with their amazing abundance and untouched natural beauty – on land, in the water, and in the air. From the comfort and safety of your Zodiac, artfully dodging the early season’s brash ice and “bergy bits,” you begin to anticipate your first face-to-face encounter with Antarctica’s majesty.

Antarctic Peninsula - Day 8 to 10

As we make our way into Antarctica’s ethereal landscape, you can’t help but take a deep breath and imagine what the early Antarctic explorers must have felt – to be the first humans to leave a footprint in the continent’s freshly fallen snow. You’ll witness countless penguins coming ashore to eagerly reunite with their mates and begin building nests, while yawning Weddell seals entertain from the nearby ice. Thanks to Seaventure’s ice-strengthened hull, we’ll let the spirit of exploration propel us into some of Antarctica’s most remote and picturesque bays and harbors, where an opportunity to land on sea ice may present itself. Twice daily outings are always the goal, typically getting you up close and personal with Antarctica for six or more hours a day. Even when we’re on the ship we remain up close and personal as we break through ice, circumnavigate icebergs, and pause for whales breaching right in front of us. Whether you’re in a kayak or a Zodiac, don’t forget to look down as well as up. This time of year, the water is so clear, opportunities for wildlife sightings are literally everywhere.

Drake Passage Homeward - Day 11 & 12

We leave this magical place and make our way north, once again crossing the legendary Drake Passage. We have one last hurrah as we celebrate the conclusion of our expedition with a special photography slideshow of our shared experience, and cap off the experience with a final highly festive meal together.

Disembark in Ushuaia

With huge smiles on weary, content faces, we disembark in the morning, where you’ll likely catch a flight to Buenos Aires and onward, newly inspired and forever changed.

Please note: Cruise itinerary is subject to change depending on weather conditions, ice conditions and other factors.

WHY CHOOSE THIS CRUISE?

  • Discover Antarctica early in the season. You will enjoy zodiac cruises through brash ice and see the white continent in all it's glory. You will feel like a true explorer on this expedition cruise. Your ship the Seaventure is well equipped to navigate the sea ice, with its polar class, ice strengthened hull.

  • Spend 2 nights in the end of the world, Ushuaia. You will have ample time to explore this charming town and the beautiful natural surrounds. Your stay here is in a luxury 5* hotel that is located in a nature reserve.

  • Travelling to Antarctica earlier in the season means you will encounter penguins and other birds who are coming to nest after a long dark winter. The snow is so white and sparkling that it hardly feels real.

  • If you are a budding or experienced photographer the light in early season is quite unlike anything you will get at other times. During the peak of Summar, Antarctica has near 24 hour day light. In spring you can enjoy the beautiful golden hour of morning sunrises and evening sunsets. Experience a range of pinky, orange, peach and lemon sorbet colours making their way over the snow and ice as you start and end an amazing day of adventure.

  • Enjoy a small ship Antarctica expedition. With a maximum of 164 passengers onboard the Seaventure you will have a more intimate experience. Your expert expedition crew will ensure you see the best that Antarctica has to offer and you will be able to quickly get on and off the ship and spend more time exploring.

 MS Seaventure

MS Seaventure

With a 1-A super Ice class rated hull designed through a German-Japanese collaboration, optimised entirely for Antarctic voyages, the heavy steel of the MS Seaventure cuts through the Drake Passage with ease. State-of-the-art marine retractable stabilisers reduce movement significantly inside the ship, rendering the voyage across the Drake not only more efficient, but smoother than most other expedition ships.

Having made it to Antarctica in speed and comfort, you’ll discover on the MS Seaventure, that time is your luxury. With a small group of only 138 travellers and a 7:1 traveller to expedition staff ratio, co-ordinating excursions is the priority and unless weather conditions prevent it, guests will spend up to six hours a day off the ship and immersed in Antarctica is normal.

A social experience, the intimate spaces, designed from the outset specifically for Antarctica travel, ensures everyone gets to know each other and learn together with lounge and lecture spaces carefully curated to fit everyone with comfort.

A full wrap around deck, close to the water, is a must have in Antarctica and a photographer's dream. The MS Seaventure's deck is on the lower decks, offering brilliant viewing of wildlife and Antarctica as it happens in 360 degrees. That way, you won't be stuck in only one space and when the captain announces “orcas” you wont have to climb a myriad of stairs to access the outer areas. Access to the bow, when the conditions allow, is a regular occurrence on MS Seaventure journeys.

You’ll enjoy a mix of fine dining by night with casual gourmet-by-day meals, matching the culinary experience to the joy of Antarctic immersion. Interspersing the many hours of activity off the ship with full belly, luxurious buffets and snacks by day, coupled with slow paced al-a-carte feasts by night where you can also enjoy your included beverages and talk through the excitement of your Antarctica experience, sharing stories and photos with your newfound friends.

This is not an 'us and them' cruise, your expedition crew will dine with the guests on board during meal times, sharing their personal insights into Antarctica and getting to know the people they are travelling with. Breaking down walls and building a more family feel as you travel to the most enigmatic place on earth - together.

The rooms are designed to cater for all tastes and include many balcony rooms on the higher levels, away from ocean spray that can be encountered on the Drake Passage, offering higher comfort and security for deluxe travellers.

Citizen science is world class on the MS Seaventure with six separate projects throughout the journey. Each guest on board can be involved and gain a deep understanding of the location whilst sending data back to significant scientific organisations to help with their critical research on Antarctica.

Enhance your immersive experience with an optional activity in Antarctica whilst travelling on the MS Seaventure.
