Uncover the mysteries of Easter Island on this four day Chimu Adventures Easter Island Extension. Your adventure takes you to all sides of the island including Rano Raracu Volcano, Te Pito Kura, Anakena Beach, Orongo Village and Ahu Akivi. Along the way you will come across Easter Island’s watchful guardians, the Moai. The Rapa Nui carved these statues between 1250 and 1500. You will also explore archaeological sites, swim at secluded beaches and learn about the history and culture of the island.
On this all-encompassing personalised itinerary, Chimu will provide travel logistics for your travel party for the duration of your journey, plus expert guides for all the major sightseeing as per itinerary. Each night you will stay in superior accommodation, handpicked by our experienced team for their creature comforts, convenient locations, and impeccable service.
You will arrive on Easter Island, one of the most isolated yet intriguing islands on planet Earth. Located 3,700 kilometres west of the coast of Chile, Easter Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site thanks to it being the home of the famed Moai statues. There are around 1,043 complete Moai volcanic ash figures remaining from those originally created by the Rapa Nui to see on the island. You will be transported to your hotel and you are free to explore after your arrival.
You will take a tour to a number of key locations where you can see the remaining Moai statues of Easter Island. First stop is Rano Raracu volcano. Located on the southern coast of the island, there are around three hundred statues at this site. You will enjoy lunch at the base of the volcano before continuing to Te Pito Kura. Here, on Tongariki Platform, you can discover some of the islands largest Moai. To complete your day you will spend the afternoon swimming and sunbathing on Anakena Beach. With pure white sand, it’s the perfect place to relax. There are also two archaeological sites nearby, Ahu Ature Huki and Ahu Nau Nau nearby to explore.
Today you will visit two more of Easter Islands incredible attractions. Your first stop is the village of Orongo, which lies at the edge of the extinct Rano Kau volcano. Consisting of fifty four stone houses, Orongo village was the ceremonial centre of birdman culture between the 16th and 19th Centuries. At the village keep watch for a series of petroglyphs depicting the birdman Tangat Manu.
Later in the day you will visit Ahu Akivi, where you will see seven Moai sculptures who stare protectively out towards the sea. These 4.5 metre tall statues represent seven young explorers who were sent to scope out the island before the arrival of Horu Matu and his people. You will also see Pun-a-Pau quarry where Easter Islands famous Pukao cylindrical hats were sourced before being rolled down the hill to the Moai sites.
You will be transported to the airport to depart for your next destination.
