San Carlos de Bariloche lies on the southern shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi in the foothills of the Andes surrounded by mountains and forests. Its location is stunning, surrounded by the Nahuel Huapi National Park, the oldest National Park in Argentina. With its Alpine-styled architecture, its picturesque lakeside setting overlooked by mountains and forests as well as numerous boutique chocolate shops and St. Bernard dogs, the city has a Swiss-like atmosphere.

Bariloche

Located in the foothills of the Andes in the northern part of Patagonia, San Carlos de Bariloche is the centerpiece of Argentina’s Lake District and is one of the most beautiful destinations in the Patagonia. After being collected from your hotel, stop by the most important lookout points of the area, like Campanario Hill and Llao-Llao Hotel, where you can appreciate the beauty of Lake Moreno and Lake Nahuel Huapi. This place also gives you the chance to be immersed in the breathtaking views of the impressive Mount Lopez and Mount Capilla. Off the beaten track, in a less traditional city tour, enjoy a nature-oriented walk through an impressive forest in the Llao-Llao Nature Park. This tour truly combines the history of the region with the beautiful natural history that surrounds it. At the conclusion of your tour you will be transferred back to your hotel. Please note this is a shared tour. Includes: Box lunch and chairlift ticket at Campanario Hill. Walking time: 1 hour approximately.

Bariloche History & Nature Tour

If the weather conditions are good you can appreciate a beautiful view of the Tronador Mountain. Once you reach the shore you will start a hike in the forest among amazing trees like Coihues and Alerces (larch trees). The trail climbs up to a group of beautiful waterfalls coming down from the Frey River. On the way back to the port you will enjoy lunch on board the Kaiken Patagonia boat.

On completion of your tour, you will be taken to your hotel. Please note this is small group and includes lunch. Level of difficulty is easy.

Sustainability

Chimu Adventures undertakes a number of sustainability measures within its operations including:

1) Only using local guides and office staff to both maximise local employment opportunities and minimise carbon footprints. Local guides also ensure you benefit from the intimate knowledge, passion and culture of the country you’re visiting.

2) Where possible, using locally owned and operated boutique hotels to maximise the return to the local community.

3) Chimu’s “Pass it on” programme has provided funding to hundreds of local community projects in Latin America. Our aim is to empower local communities, helping them to develop their own infrastructure for the future. Since 2006, we have been working with Kiva (a well-known Non-Governmental Organisation), providing hundreds of loans to local businesses all over South America.

4) In our pre tour information we provide a range of tips and advice on how to minimise your impact on both local environments and communities.

5) Chimu Adventures’ offices also take a number of sustainability measures including carbon offsets for company vehicles and most staff travel. Chimu Adventure’s internal processes are also structures to create a paperless office and to reduce waste. There are also internal programmes to help staff minimise their carbon footprint such as our staff bike purchase assistance plan which encourages office staff to commute to work via bicycle. Currently almost half of our office based staff commute to work via bicycle.
